Academic

At The Haldia Institute of Health Sciences, Haldia, we have very experienced and efficient teaching faculty in each department. Moreover, we are academically attached to the ICARE Institute of Medical Science & Research, Haldia Institute of Dental Science & Research, Haldia Institute of Technology, Haldia Institute of Management etc. Students have access to the Central Libraries of these institutes and experienced faculties of these institutes take classes as per our requirement at our campus as well.

Clinical

The institute has spacious laboratories for each department. There are total seven ultramodern laboratories, all of them equipped with sophisticated high-end instruments, quite capable of carrying out any research activity in numerous fields of medical sciences. Besides that, the institute has its own ‘Out Patient Clinic’ with all the modern equipments and machines for the Department of Physiotherapy. Patients of adjacent areas as well as surrounding districts regularly visit our Physiotherapy Clinic for service. Moreover, we have clinical tie-up with RN Tagore International Institute of Cardiac Science, Mukundapur, AMRI, Mukundapur, and our very own 550-bedded multispecialty hospital, Dr. B.C. Roy Hospital, Haldia, Haldia Sub-Divisional Hospital, Durgachak and Purba Medinipur District Hospital, Tamluk to where students are regularly sent for their advanced clinical exposure and training. For the mandatory internship period, the students clearing their final semester/year examination are sent to various reputed institutions/hospitals as per the requirement of their syllabus.

Hostel

The college has separate hostels for both boys and girls with intake capacity of seventy (70) and hundred (100) respectively. Girls’ hostel is inside the campus whereas the boys’ hostel is in 5 minutes walking distance. Both the hostels are fully protected with 24-hours security posting. No one, even the parents are not allowed to visit the hostel without proper permission from the authority. Both the girls’ hostel and the boys’ hostel have their own canteen, 24-hours power back-up and water supply. Each student is provided with a cot with a mattress and one table and a chair. Both the hostels have common room with television and other means of recreation. Boys’ hostel has a gymnasium of their own.

PlayGround

The college has two large playgrounds inside the campus, one for football and the other for cricket and other sports. Annual sports competition and Annual Cultural events are organized at these play grounds. Students are encouraged to play football, cricket, volleyball, badminton and different types of track and field events etc. at this playground after the college hours. College provides all the necessary equipments and maintains the ground.

Gymnasium

The College maintains its own gymnasium and fitness centre. It is located inside the multipurpose hall in sports complex, equipped with free weight exerciser, bodyweight exerciser, gym ball /Swiss ball, resistance bands, Treadmill etc. The Center also holds classes for kickboxing, yoga and aerobics.
1. Weight training section: This section comprises of weightlifting weights, exercise stations, Swiss balls etc.
2. Cardio section: It consists of treadmills, elliptical trainer, cycles and other equipments of aerobic training.

Seminar Hall

There are two fully air-conditioned seminar halls attached to our institute with seating capacity of 300 and 550 respectively. These seminar halls are regularly used for various academic as well as cultural programs. Seminars and workshops, attended and conducted by renowned scholars of international repute, are organized by each department on regular basis at these seminar halls. Annual cultural competitions in various fields like song, dance, skit, talent show, quiz, paper presentation etc. are also organized in theses halls.

Boys & Girls Common Room

There are two separate common rooms for the girls and boys at the college. Both the common rooms are spacious and are well furnished with equipment for amusement and recreation like carrom boards, chess boards, Chinese checker boards, table tennis etc. Students spend their leisure hours here.

Cafeteria

The institute has an on-campus cafeteria. The cafeteria caters refreshments and eatables to the students, college staff members, visiting guardians, and guests coming to the campus. It is clean and quite spacious in order to accommodate a large number of students at a time. The whole ambience of the cafeteria is so soothing and delightful that it tempts you to come here again and again.

Annual Sports and Cultural Competition

Only studying makes one dull and depressed. Annual cultural and sports competitions are organized at the college each year, usually in the month of December. Students are encouraged to participate in these competitions. Students coming from various departments are grouped into four heterogeneous groups. They fight for the college championship in football, cricket, volleyball, badminton, carrom, chess, Chinese checkers, athletics, tug of war etc. in the sports competitions and for songs, dance, recitation, poster and paper presentation, debate, skit, talent show, rangoli, food craft etc in the cultural competitions. Saraswati Puja, Biswakarma Puja, Teachers’ day, Rabindra Jayanti, Gandhi Jayanti etc. are celebrated at the college with wholehearted participation from all the departments. Besides these, International Physiotherapy Day, Blood Donation Day, Swachcha BharatAviyan etc. are also celebrated at the college.

Annual College Magazine

An annual college magazine, named “Abhigyan” has been published regularly to provide much needed avenue for the students who desire to express their thoughts and ideas in writings, paintings etc. Students are encouraged throughout the year to write their opinion about anything they find interesting. They usually write essays on various topics, short stories, travelogues, poems, plays etc. Faculty members are also encouraged to contribute to the magazine. These are collected, edited, printed and then published on the occasion of the College Annual Festival.

Alumini Meet

The HIHS Alumni Association, formed with the legitimate permission granted by the college authority, has been working for the betterment of the students, present and past. It has its own committee with representative from the college authority, separate bank account and separate vision, mission, objectives. The Alumni Association meets at least once a year as per their schedule.

Library

The college has a large 1600 sq. ft. library in its campus with more than 5000 books and 100 international/ national journals. Students can sit and read at the library. The librarian and library assistants are always there to help. The college has tie-up with the ICARE Institute of Medical Science & Research, Haldia and the Haldia Institute of Technology and students have access to their central library as well. The central library of the ICARE Institute of Medical Science & Research, Haldia has more than twenty thousand books and 300 journals in various subjects relating to medical science and research. We are to implement e-library facility very soon in our library and students can choose and issue books online.

Medical Unit

The institute has its own medical unit at the campus. It remains open from 10 am to 1 pm for medical checkup and from 3 pm to 5 pm for psychological checkup every day (except Saturday, Sunday and holiday). There is an isolation room in the medical unit with all the facilities. The medical unit has its own ambulance for emergency purpose.

Computer Laboratory

The institute has a spacious well equipped computer laboratory with 30 machines. The computer lab is fully air-conditioned and Wi-Fi enabled. ‘Computer application’ has been the part of the syllabus of many undergraduate and postgraduate courses conducted at the institute. Besides them, the students who have to carry out projects, dissertations or research works as per requirement of their course, usually utilize the computer laboratory as well.
